SC-05-05 meeting report, New York, 2009-10

Report of the meeting of SC-05-05 (Working Group on Grounding and EMC Practices of the SC-05 Subcommittee on Interconnections) held in New York City, 2009-10-10.

The meeting was convened by chairman Bruce C. Olson.

The agenda was approved as submitted.

The report of the previous meeting, 2009-05, was amended to change the next meeting convention from 126 to 127, and then accepted.

Open Projects

AES48-R: Review of AES48-2005, AES standard on interconnections - Grounding and EMC practices - Shields of connectors in audio equipment containing active circuitry
The meeting proposed that this standard be reaffirmed in January 2010 unless a new proposal is received to modify it.

AES54-R: Review of:
AES54-1-2008, Connection of cable shields within connectors attached to portable balanced audio cables
AES54-2-2008, Shields of balanced audio wiring within fixed and portable passive connector panels, jack fields, and passive microphone splitters
AES54-3-2008, Shields of balanced microphone-level outputs of active equipment other than microphones

Status: No action requested or required

Development Projects

AES-X125: Input filtering for electromagnetic compatibility
Project scope: To describe and explain the techniques that have been found to be practicable and effective for RF filtering.

Current goal: PWD, Goal date: 2010-02

B. Whitlock and J. Woodgate agreed to propose updated definitions shortly after their meeting later today.

AES-X152: Signal levels and impedances of analog audio interfaces
Project scope: To develop a standard for signal levels and circuit impedances of audio system components and for the specification of these quantities in product data sheets

Intent: Propose revisions to IEC for MT 61938, Target: 2009

Discussion: Because there is a proposal for maintenance of IEC 61938 initiated by a project in SC-04-04, J. Woodgate has proposed a revision for the WG to consider proposing to the IEC. The intent is to add an additional clause for Professional Audio to the interface sections for Microphone- and Line-level signals. A good discussion of this proposal ensued and resulted in an updated document that was posted to the SC-05-05 document site by M. Yonge on 2009-10-10. Comments need to be submitted immediately so that this proposal can be submitted to the IEC in a week or so.

Liaisons

There were no liaison issues.

New Projects

A new project is proposed for a report to define terms and definitions balanced audio interfaces. Awaiting PIR prepared by M. Yonge and B. Olson.

New business
