SC-05-02 meeting, San Francisco, 2008-10

Report of the meeting of the SC-05-02 Working Group on Audio Connectors of the SC-05 Subcommittee on Interconnections, held in conjunction with the AES 125th Convention in San Francisco, 2008-10-02

The meeting was convened by chair R. Rayburn.

The agenda and the report of the previous meeting, held in Amsterdam, 2008-05-17, were approved as written.

Open Projects

AES14-R: Review of AES14-1992 (r2004): AES Standard for professional audio equipment - Application of connectors, part 1, XLR-type polarity and gender
Secretariat will add an editorial reference to the IEC Standard at the next printing.

Development Projects

AES-X011: Fiber-Optic Audio Connections: Connectors and Cables Being Used and Considered for Audio
The SC-05-02-F meeting attracted no participants. W. Bachman proposes a new draft, which will cover both indoor and outdoor applications, which will be put on the reflector ASAP.

AES-X105: Modified XLR-3 Connector for Digital Audio
Waiting for comments from M. Natter regarding some of the drawings, otherwise ready for CFC. Secretariat to fold these comments into a clean PWD. Working Group will be asked on the reflector to review this one more time so this document can more forward to CFC.

AES-X113: Universal female phone jack
Secretariat to post latest version to Working Group reflector. A few corrections have been incorporated. Working Group will be asked on the reflector to review this one more time so this document can more forward to CFC.

AES-X123: XL Connectors to Improve Electromagnetic Compatibility
Forward and abstract for the circumferential contact Standard to be written by chair. Filtering part of project to result in future output from this same project number. B. Sachs to be asked to provide J. Woodgate with sample filtered connector for review.

AES-X130: Data Connector in a XL Connector Shell
PWD from Secretariat expected soon.

New projects

Audio application of 25-way D-type connectors in balanced circuits (Proposed AES-X183) Secretariat to initiate project. Draft to be posted to reflector for working group review. Name of this connector type in the Standard to be aligned with IEC usage.

New business

There was no new business.

The next meeting will be scheduled in conjunction with the AES 126th Convention in Munich, Germany, 2009-05.
