SC-02-08 meeting, New York, 2007-10-05

Report of the meeting of the SC-02-08 Working Group on Audio-File Transfer and Exchange of the SC-02 Subcommittee on Digital Audio, held in New York, NY., US., 2007-10-05

The meeting was convened by chair M. Yonge.

The agenda and the report of the previous meeting, held on 2007-05-06 in Vienna, were accepted as written.

Open projects

AES31-1-R: Review of AES31-1-2001 (r2006): AES standard for network and file transfer of audio - Audio-file transfer and exchange - Part 1: Disk format
No action was requested or required

AES31-2-R: Review of AES31-2-2006: Part 2: File Format for Transferring Digital Audio Data Between Systems of Different Type and Manufacture
The intention, expressed at the previous meeting, to produce an amendment to AES31-2 that adopts the RF64 file-size limit solution from EBU T3306 has since been supported by the EBU. It will be developed as an annex to AES31-2 under a new project, AES-X162 (see below).

The meeting also agreed that it was unnecessary to adopt the second part of T3306 that relates to channel-mask flags because it was a functionally separate issue and was arguably unnecessary in the general case.

AES31-3-R: Review of AES31-3-1999, AES standard for network and file transfer of audio - Audio-file transfer and exchange - Part 3: Simple project interchange. including maintenance of annex F.
The anticipated editorial revision is still anticipated.

AES46-R: Review of AES46-2002: AES standard for network and file transfer of audio - Audio-file transfer and exchange - Radio traffic audio delivery extension to the broadcast-wave-file format
The Call for Comment for this standard was published 2007-07-04. The CFC period has now closed without comment and so this standard is reaffirmed.

Development projects

AES-X068: A Format for Passing Edited Digital Audio Between Systems of Different Type and Manufacture That Is Based on Object Oriented Computer Techniques
Recognising the lack of progress in this project over many years, the meeting proposed that this project be retired.

AES-X128 : Liaison with AAF Association
The meeting proposed that this project be retired on the grounds that the AAF Association no longer exists.

AES-X149: Format and Recommend Usage of the Direct Stream Digital Interchange File Format (DSDIFF)
An updated draft was posted to this group 2007-09-05. The draft will be secretariat-formatted as soon as possible. An annex containing a table of manufacturers' IDs, to be administered by the AES, still needs to be be added.
