There was no input from the task group for this meeting. However, it was the general impression that this document not necessarily needs any changes. In order to know the work group position regarding this document, it was decided to carry out a survey among the members whether this document should be reaffirmed, revised, or withdraw.
AES43-R: Review of AES43-2000: AES standard for forensic audio - Criteria for the authentication of analog audio tape recordings.
Project scope: This standard specifies the minimum procedure for the authentication of analog audio tape recordings intended to be offered as evidence or otherwise utilized in civil, criminal, or other fact finding proceedings. It does not specify or restrict additional testing procedures that can be used.

For the authentication of analog tapes a number of methodologies are available. D. Begault expressed that this document only covers the method using magnetic development. In the revision of the document this should be taken into account. There was a general agreement on this. Concerning the standardization of other methods and media - including digital recordings � it was underlined that this should be done on the basis of research, and peer reviewed papers. It was concluded that a part of the revision of this document would be a clarification, changing the title to: AES standard for forensic audio - Criteria for the authentication of analog audio tape recordings using the method of magnetic development.
This work is now assigned to Task Group SC-03-12-C. The members are R. Sanders, R. Schlesinger, J. Wheeler, and D. A. Bell.

Dooley reported on the progress of this document. A draft is issued which has been commented. A few details were discussed. The work continues.

New projects:
The ENF (Electric Network Frequency) method by Catalin Grigoras was shortly presented by the vice chair. This method is based on the recognition of the pattern of the mains frequency deviations within a power network (grid). In Europe most countries are connected to the same network. In North America four networks are in operation. A task group will be initiated to study this methodology further for the authentication of digital recordings.

The next meeting will be scheduled in conjunction with the AES 122nd Convention in Vienna, Austria, 2007-05.
