SC-04-01 meeting report, Paris, May 2006

Report of the SC-04-01 Working Group on Acoustics and Sound Source Modeling, of the SC-04 Subcommittee on Acoustics meeting, held in conjunction with the AES 119th Convention in Paris, France, 2006-05-20

The meeting was convened by vice-chair W. Ahnert.

The agenda and the report of the previous meeting, 2005-10-07, were accepted as written.

Open projects

AES-4id-R: Review of AES-4id-2001: AES information document for room acoustics and sound reinforcement systems - Characterization and measurement of surface scattering uniformity
This was reassigned to SC-04-01 after termination of SC-04-02; at the moment no activities, only after AES-X83 is released.

It was decided to discuss with the former chair of SC-04-02, Dr. P. D'Antonio the need to reaffirm this project in 2006 or to decide in October about revision or withdrawing.

AES20-R: Review of AES20-1996 (r2002): AES recommended practice for professional audio - Subjective evaluation of loudspeakers
According to a proposal of J. Woodgate the project should be moved to SC04-03, The secretary will initiate the corresponding activities

Development projects

AES-X081: Liaison with International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) SC 43-2 WG25
This is temporarily transferred to our group. Also here the former chair of SC-04-02 will give advice on whether to keep the liaison with the ISO workgroup or not. Maybe the project will be closed in October.

AES-X83 Loudspeaker Polar Radiation Measurements Suitable for Room Acoustics
The latest draft X83-sec-PWD-060207.pdf was again reviewed in detail.

Here again discussions have been done item by item. Some minor changes and corrections are added, e.g. the introduction of the definition of the used term "Point of rotation".

The hopefully updated final draft will be posted on the document site not later August 31st and should be discussed for approval within 14 days after posting. Afterwards the standard draft should be finally ready for publishing.

Liaisons

Continue working closely with AES2-R to be certain of compatibility with AES-X83.
