Development Projects

AES-X075: IEC Liaison for IEC-PAS 61883-6
J. Yoshio gave a report. IEC 60958 is creating usage guidelines for sending HD data. Also looking at SMPTE time code and delay information.

B. Moses asked whether the IEC delay information standard was applicable to pro audio. Yoshio felt this could be possible.

AES-X101: Data Type, Properties, and Method Definitions for Audio Device Application Program Interfaces (API)
Secretariat in process of formatting document.

AES-X126: Profile for professional audio over 1394
Task group SC-02-12-G had met twice earlier at the same convention. The document "x126-generic-fjm-ptd-051002.doc" ("Application of 32-bit Generic Data Defined in IEC 61883-6") is to be promoted to Proposed Working Group Draft.

AES-X132: Synchronisation of audio over IEEE 1394
The document "thaler-03-050525.pdf" ("Synchronization of Audio over 1394") is to be promoted to Proposed Working Group Draft. The potential patent issue has been resolved.

AES-X137: Liaison with 1394 Trade Association (1394 TA)
J. Fujimori gave a report. The AV working group met recently. Four items were discussed.

  • Report from task force on US Digital TV guidelines.
  • Enhancement to AM protocol 2.1.
  • AVC Panel Subunit update.
  • AVC Music Subunit update.
The Music Subunit Enhancement and Plural Node specs have been approved, and are now in front of TA Board for approval, which is expected by the end of this year.

New Projects

No new projects were proposed.

New Business

T. White of the MIDI Manufacturers Association discussed their new HD MIDI proposal to represent MIDI in 14 or 32 bits. Discussion of the potential changes. No one sees potential incompatibility problems.

Strawn called for a volunteer to become more active in TC-NAS. M. Mora volunteered.

K. Dalbjoern brought up the idea of a FireWire control standard. N. Thompson suggests looking at AVC Music Subunit and adding bits from AES-X101 that are missing from AVC Music SU. R. Foss points out we are really talking about Audio Subunit. This issue will be sent to the Sc-02-12-G task group to discuss further.

The next meeting will be held in conjunction with the AES 120th Convention, in Paris, 2006-05.
