SC-05-05 Meeting, San Francisco, 2004-10-27

Report of the meeting of SC-05-05 Working Group on Grounding and EMC Practices of the SC-05 Subcommittee on Interconnections held in San Francisco, CA., US., on 2004-10-27

The meeting was convened by chair B. C. Olson.

The Agenda and the report of the previous meeting on 2004-05-07 in Berlin was accepted as written.

Development Projects

AES-X013: Guidelines for Grounding
The public Call for Comment on AES48 was published on 2004-10-26. The chair thanks all those who worked so hard to get this completed.

AES-X027: Test Methods for Measuring Electromagnetic Interference
J. Brown and B. Whitlock assured the Working Group that they would move forward on this project.

AES-X125: Input filtering for electromagnetic compatibility
T. Waldron has forwarded a draft to the chair, but it needs a lot of work to get it into standards form. Olson will assist Waldron in getting this done.

AES-X147: Shields of connectors for microphone-level signals
The Task Group led by Brown will better describe the scopes and titles of the three projects that this needs to be divided into. A Task Group meeting was held after the Working Group meeting and the following was subsequently proposed to SC-05 and accepted.

AES-X147A: Connection of cable shields within connectors attached to balanced audio cables
Scope: To develop a standard to specify arrangements for the connections of cable shields within connectors attached to balanced audio cables

AES-X147B: Shielding of balanced audio wiring within passive connector panels and passive mic splitters
Scope: To develop a standard specifying arrangements for the shielding of balanced audio wiring within passive connector panels and passive mic splitters audio cables, both fixed and portable.

AES-X147C: Shields of microphone level outputs of active equipment other than microphones
Scope: To develop a standard specifying shielding arrangements for microphone level outputs of active equipment other than microphones

Liaisons

There are no liaisons.

New Projects

A new project was proposed by that was the following was then approved by SC-05 after the convention.

AES-X152: Signal levels and impedances of analog audio interfaces
Scope: To develop a standard for signal levels and circuit impedances of audio system components and for the specification of these quantities in product data sheets.

New Business

There was no new business.

The next meeting will be in conjunction with the 118th AES Convention in Barcelona, 2005-05.
