[updated 2003-01-28]

Report of the meeting of SC-05-05 Working Group on Grounding and EMC Practices of the SC-05 Subcommittee on Interconnections held in conjunction with the 115th AES Convention in New York City, NY, US, 2003-10-09.

The meeting was convened by chair B. Olson.

The agenda and the report of the meeting in Amsterdam 2003-03-22 were accepted as written.

Development Projects

AES-X27 Test Methods for Measuring Electromagnetic Interference
J. Brown presented the results of his research, also presented elsewhere at this convention under the titles "Testing for Radio-Frequency Common Impedance Coupling (the 'Pin 1 Problem') in Microphones and other Audio Equipment" and "A Novel Method of Testing for Susceptibility of Audio Equipment to Interference from Medium and High Frequency Radio Transmitters".

The meeting felt that an information document should be prepared that summarizes this research and refers to the AES pre-prints. Brown will write a short summary and the chair will then prepare a draft for the approval of the working group.

AES-X13 Guidelines for Shielding
A number of editorial changes were discussed. Labels were added to a number of the elements in the drawing to clarify their intent. The meeting agreed on all the wording changes and decided that the PWD was ready to be progressed to a PCFC. Clarifications of where the drawings were to appear in the document were also discussed. The revised document will be posted to the reflector before being forwarded to the Secretariat to be formatted as a PCFC.

AES-X35 Installation Wiring Practices
No progress reported or expected. This project is waiting for the completion of other projects in SC-05-05.

AES-X125 Input filtering for electromagnetic compatibility
No progress reported. The chair will talk to both B. Whitlock and R. Chinn and discuss a schedule. T. Waldron has indicated that he could share some of the techniques that his company has implemented in their current products.
