Chair R. Rayburn convened the meeting. The agenda and the report from the previous meeting at the AES 109th Convention were approved as written.
Current development projects
AES14-R Review of AES14-1992 (r1998) AES standard for professional audio equipment -- Application of connectors, part 1, XLR-type polarity and gender
Additional contact arrangements (M-S analog) are under consideration in liaison with SC-04-04 (Microphones). No action was taken in anticipation of input from SC-04-04.
AES26-R Review of AES26-2001 AES recommended practice for professional audio -- Conservation of the polarity of audio signals
No action was taken.
AES45-R Review of AES45-2001, AES standard for single programme connectors -- Connectors for loudspeaker-level patch panels
The document uses a specific manufacturer's connector drawings instead of generic drawings. The group considered changing to a more generic drawings in the next revision.
AES-X11 Fiber-Optic Audio Connections: Connectors and Cables Being Used and Considered for Audio
No action was taken.
AES-X40 TRS Connectors
No action was taken.
AES-X105 Modified XLR-3 Connector for Digital Microphones
The XLD connector is based on drawings and rational in AES42 appendix. A long discussion took place over issues including the need for a tactile and visual indicator enabling easy field identification. The group also discussed a circumferential grounding structure.A. Eckhart agreed to develop dimensioned drawings in a PTD to describe this connector. The target date 2002-05.
AES-X113 Universal female phone jack
No action was taken.
AES-X123 XL Connectors to Improve Electromagnetic Compatibility
Eckhart agreed to develop dimensioned drawings in a PTD to describe this connector. The target date 2002-10.
AES-X124 Universal jack connector
The group requested that SC-05 ask the AESSC to retire the project because its substance can be handled by AES-X113.
New projects
No project requests were received or introduced.
New Business
The group discussed the scope of SC-05-02 with respect to the work of SC-05- 02-F. Should it stay under SC-05-02, or move to SC-05-03, or go back under its own group as SC-05-04? This question led to a more general discussion of the scopes and names of SC-05-03 Multiple-Programme Connections versus SC-05-02 Single-Programme Connections. The group discussed changing scopes of both groups. R. van der Hilst suggested changing scopes of both groups so one is Database (SC-05-03) and the other is Connectors (SC-05-02). The group agreed to pursue this change but keep SC-05-02-F where it is.
(NOTE At the subsequent SC-05-03 meeting with representatives of Sc-05-02 present, it was agreed to recommend to SC-05 that the scopes of both groups should change to the following:
The scope of the SC-05-02 Working Group on Audio Connections shall include, within the bounds of the scope of SC-05, usage, description, and designation of connectors for audio signals. The scope of the SC-05-03 Working Group on Audio Connectors shall include, within the bounds of the scope of SC-05, documentation of connector usages for audio and ancillary functions.)
The next meeting is scheduled to be held in conjunction with the AES 112th Convention in Munich, Germany.
