Current development projects

AES42-R Review of AES42-2001, AES standard for acoustics -- Digital interface for microphones

S. Harris, chair of the SC-04-04-D task group, reported on the completion of the new standard AES42, and on the meeting of the group which had taken place the day before. His report on this SC-04-04-D meeting has been posted on its e-mail reflector. AES42 progressed through the call for comment period, had some editorial changes made and has been released as a standard. There are some unresolved issues that could produce amendments, particularly the continuing issue of connector choice and a safe digital phantom power (DPP).

AES-X93 Recommendations for Revisions of IEC 61938 Clause 7

The working group members voted to recommend that AES-X93 be retired because the work is completed.

AES-X62 Psychoacoustics of Microphone Characteristics

AES-X62 was discussed in the context of a survey to be performed by SC-04-04-B and SC-04-04-C. Several aspects of the survey design were considered including the formulation of questions and filtering respondents' answers to qualify the respondents. R. Streicher and Josephson agreed to contact some of their colleagues to assist in the survey design.

AES-X63 Time-Domain Response of Microphones

J. Green reported no progress on AES-X63.

AES-X85 Detailed Professional Microphone Specifications

There has been some discussion on the e-mail reflector, with a few members submitting suggestions for work on specific sections of a draft to be completed by 2001-09, for example, the measurement of microphone distortion.
