Call for Comment on DRAFT AES-14id-xxxx, AES information document for interconnections - Universal jack for IEC 60603-11 and B gauge 6,35 mm plugs has been published.

Jack connectors that can accommodate both types of plug have existed for some time, but are not well known. Clause 5 recommends jack dimensions that are specified to have the required "universal" capability.

Call for Comment on WITHDRAWAL of AES35-2000, AES standard for audio preservation and restoration - Method for estimating life expectancy of magneto-optical (M-O) discs, based on effects of temperature and relative humidity has been published in accordance with our 5-year review policy on 2010-07-12.

The reason for withdrawal is that the Magneto-Optical discs discussed in this document are no longer in current use and it can be assumed that the content of such discs in former use have now been migrated to newer media. It is noted that, under current policy, the content of this document will remain available through the AES Standards Store as a withdrawn document; also a substantially identical document is available from the ISO as ISO 18926:2006, "Imaging materials - Information stored on magneto-optical (MO) discs - Method for estimating the life expectancy based on the effects of temperature and relative humidity".

Call for Comment on REAFFIRMATION of AES38-2000 (r2005), AES standard for audio preservation and restoration - Life expectancy of information stored in recordable compact disc systems - Method for estimating, based on effects of temperature and relative humidity  has been published in accordance with our 5-year review policy.

The Call for Comment on withdrawal of AES-3id-2001, "AES information document for digital audio engineering - Transmission of AES3 formatted data by unbalanced coaxial cable",  published 2010-04-06, closed without comment. 

This Information Document is therefore withdrawn. 

The reason for this withdrawal is that the content of AES-3id has been superseded by AES3-4-2009, Annex D (Normative) "Coaxial transmission", and by AES- 2id Annex C "Coaxial cable adapters and equalizer characterization", and so this Information Document has become redundant.

However, as a transitional measure, it will continue to be available in the AES Standards Store as AES-3id-2001 (w2010) for the time being.
 

The Call for Comment on reaffirmation of AES48-2005, "AES standard on interconnections - Grounding and EMC practices - Shields of connectors in audio equipment containing active circuitry",  published 2010-04-06, has closed without comment. 

This standard is therefore reaffirmed as AES48-2005 (r2010).

A revised edition of AES41-2009: AES standard for digital audio - Recoding data set for audio bit-rate reduction has ben published.

This document describes a format for the data to be transmitted to identify a number of popular audio bit-rate reduction techniques. Provision is also made for the transmission of additional ancillary information. This document also describes a mechanism whereby the data derived from the coded signal can be transported with the decoded signal so that the data may be recovered and used to aid a subsequent re-encoding process.

This 2009 revision extends AES41 to include data formats for carrying this loudness and down-mix metadata with the uncompressed PCM using the same transport mechanism as before. The metadata can therefore be carried in the audio to which it relates.
