Report of the meeting of the SC-02-05 working group on Synchronisation of the SC-02 subcommittee on Digital Audio held in Berlin, Germany, 2004-05-06.
The meeting was convened by chair R. Caine.
The agenda was accepted with two additions: firstly to deal with final issues on project AES-X136 and secondly an item of new business to discuss the future of SC-02-05. The report of the meeting in New York, 2003-10-08, was approved.
Open projects:
AES5-R: Review of AES5-2003, AES recommended practice for professional digital audio - Preferred sampling frequencies for applications employing pulse-code modulation
Revision or reaffirmation due before 2008. No action required
AES11-R: Review of AES11-2003, AES Recommended Practice for Digital Audio Engineering - Synchronization of digital audio equipment in studio operations.
Revision or reaffirmation due before 2008. An annex on multi-channel sync will be written by Caine as an amendment. C. Chambers offered input of essential document and uploaded it to the SC-02-05 document site.
Development Projects
AES-X121 Synchronisation of digital audio over wide areas.
The meeting felt that the existing documents should be developed as a technical report for publication; J. Grant and Caine have offered to do this work within SC-02-05-D and report to the working group before 2005.
AES-X136, Date and time in AES11
This project has been closed. Caine requested that the associated task group, SC-02-05-E be closed also.
New Projects.
A project to define the accuracy of the clock used in AES47 was discussed. A project initiation is required.
New Business:
The future of SC-02-05 was discussed. The development projects have reached completion and the two maintenance projects only need minor work. There seems little purpose in maintaining a working group for this small work-load. No objection was raised to the closure of SC-02-05 and the movement of projects to SC-02-02 or elsewhere at the discretion of SC-02.
Chair therefore requested that "Synchronisation" be added to the scope of SC-02-02, that the projects of SC-02-05 be adopted by SC-02-02, and that the working group SC-02-05 be closed.
Any future meeting may take place at the 117th AES Convention in October 2004
