Audio in Wartime

Audio, in its widest sense has been used in two World Wars for several purposes:

• 1. Detection of the enemy
• 2. Transmission of information, usually covert
• 3. Misinformation to the enemy
• 4. Propaganda.
• 5. Public information.

Examples and technical principles will be given of all of these together with extracts from significant recordings.
