AES British Section lectures - January 2006
AES50-2005 (High Resolution Multi-channel Audio Interconnection), and future developments in audio-over-Cat5 interconnection
Michael Page, Sony Pro-Audio Lab
AES50-2005 is an AES Standard for multi-channel audio interconnection over Cat-5 cable. Derived from Ethernet technology, it provides a powerful and flexible interconnection mechanism for modern digital audio systems, and has recently been adopted by a number of big-name pro-audio manufacturers for use in forthcoming products. Michael Page of Sony Pro-Audio Lab will discuss the background, capabilities, technology and applications behind AES50, giving insight into the engineering and standardisation processes on a project like this. The latest developments using Gigabit Ethernet will also be discussed, extending range, channel count and control data capacity to remarkable new levels of performance.
