Presentation during the scientific meeting of the AES Portuguese section on 8th of October 2011.
The 13th annual meeting of the Portuguese section of the AES took place on the 7th and 8th of October of 2011 at ESMAE (Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo), Porto. The first day was devoted to tutorial talks on audio, targeted to university students. Closing this sequence of talks we had a live concert for three guitars recorded using a 5.1 surround microphone system. During the concert different strategies of surround recording were tested and explained to the audience. These recordings could be enjoyed the following day with a specially prepared 5.1 surround system.
During the second day we had our scientific meeting with 10 presentations from students affiliated to several Portuguese academic institutions. We also had a few invited talks presented by distinguished Portuguese academics covering subjects such as room acoustics, microphone recording techniques and audio software development for iOS. The participation of the audience was quite enthusiastic and the room was always crowded with students, academics and entrepreneurs coming from different parts of Portugal. Once more the AES section meeting was a great success, thanks to the hard work of its associates.
