Summary

Section Chair Jeff M. Smith presented a humorous and lighthearted overview of various events related to Audio Forensics from the AES131 Convention. This included a brief foray into audio tape authentication and digital audio authentication using the Electric Network Frequency, or 60 Hz hum from mains power.

Another point of discussion related to the Technical Committee on Audio Forensics (TC-AF, which Smith chairs) and its role at AES Conventions and Conferences. At AES131 these included a Workshop on Forensic Audio Authentication, the TC-AF meeting, and several papers presented by TC-AF members. The area most concentrated on by the TC-AF right now if the upcoming 46th Conference of the AES entitled "Audio Forensics - Recording, Recovery, Analysis, and Interpretation". This event will be held in Denver, CO June 14-16 2012 and will be supported by the Colorado Section of the AES.

Former section secretary Kevin Gross summarized information presented at the convention by Bob Katz, Susan Rogers and others on loudness measurement, standards loudness normalization systems and the loudness war.
