AES Section Meeting Reports
Argentina - September 28, 2011
Summary
On September 28th 2011 the auditorium at the EMU Educación Musical School in La Plata, Buenos Aires, held a presentation from AES Argentina going round the measuring instruments used in audio as an objective analysis tool for activities related to audio such as recording, mixing, mastering, post production, and more.
Keynote speakers Juan Cana San Juan Martín (Astor Mastering) and Indio Gauvron (Chairman of AES Argentina) divided their speech into two parts, the first one being a historical introduction on the technology of the volume units meters and program peak meters (VU and PPM), originally developed out of necessity in 1921, followed by the advent of loudness meters created by CBS. The second part was focused on spectrum analyzers, regulation of their parameters according to sound material, and its application, using live audio examples for comparison. The use of goniometers and stereo coherence meters was also discussed.
