Summary

Maestro Curtis and David Gibson gave a presentation to the San Francisco AES Chapter at the Globe Institute of Recording and Production.

David Gibson and Maestro Curtis are the co-authors of "The Art of Producing," (currently working on the second edition) a book explaining a step-by-step process for producing a musical project.

Mr. Gibson and Mr. Curtis started recounting several anecdotes from their recording and producing careers depicting common situations that normally happen in the studio and how to deal with them.

A demonstration of the Virtual Mixing software invented by Mr. Gibson followed that. The "Virtual Mixer" software uses visuals of the actual mix to control mixing consoles and computerized mixers.

The software was then used to provide a useful dynamic visual depiction of the result of applying different effects on audio signals.

The same visual representation was used to show different styles of musical production.

Finally, the presenters made a through analysis of several songs step by step, pointing out the different factors to take in account for a successful production.
