Summary

Producer/Engineer Josh Wilbur visited us to discuss his journey that took him from a NESCom student to Grammy winning producer. Wilbur graduated from NESCom in '98 and thereafter found himself working as an intern in New York City. He talked about his trials and tribulations about getting his foot in the door at Soundtrack in New York City, and he offered insight on how to get noticed in a studio environment as an intern. His advice; "...be the guy that people can count on to get things done right, no matter what it is." Josh also talked a lot about the producing aspects of his daily job. He noted keeping the artist inspired and keeping a good energy/vibe is important to getting a great performance. This however can be very physically and mentally exhausting, especially when tracking vocals. The secret, described Wilbur, was making sure everything is tuned. He couldn't stress it enough and explained, "That's what separated the men from the boys."

Josh also shared pictures of various recording sessions he had been a part of and explained more about past projects.

Josh Wilbur's visit and presentation was very successful, and students gained a fantastic insight into the daily life of a renowned producer/engineer. Thanks Josh!
