Other business or activities at the meeting:
On the 17th of january 2018 the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics (IEM) invited our students to a presentation of their current fields of research. The well attended evening was opened by Professor Rober Höldrich, after which Franz Zotter started of the presentations by demonstrating some current topics in his 3D Audio research. PhD student Andreas Pirchner talked about his and Marko Ciciliani's work in the field of sound design and presented one of their projects. Matthias Frank gave insights on artificial engine sounds for electric cars, which led over to Katharina Groß-Vogt's presentation about Sonic Interaction Design and Sonification. At the end Alois Sontacchi talked about different applications of Music Information Retrieval and opened the buffet for everybody.
Over sandwiches and drinks, participants had the chance to chat and visit various rooms, where live-demonstrations had been prepared. In one of the rooms Daniel Rudrich presented the IEM Ambi Plug-In Suite, in another room Thomas Deppisch led people through his binaural 3D audio walkthrough, in the kitchen Katharina Groß-Vogt presented an acoustic drink reminder and in the CUBE Nils Meyer-Kahlen and Thomas Deppisch demonstrated their cube-shaped loudspeakers, which use reflecting surfaces to realise surround sound playback. During this part of the evening, students also had the chance to talk about possible topics for bachelor-, project- and master-theses at the IEM.
