Summary

The Women's Audio Mission (WAM) Recording Studio and Training Facility is a small, professional recording studio and training facility in the Mission District that provides a rigorous internship and training environment to cultivate women recording engineers and producers. The new state of the art studio was built from the ground up in the past year and includes a 48 channel Otari Status console, Pro Tools HD system with Pro Control + Edit Pack, and Lavry A/D/A.
Through grants and industry sponsorship, the non-profit organization has funded construction on this new facility, and developed curriculum to train engineers and producers, as well as workshops and a mentorship programs for girls between 8-18 interested in audio careers, and an artist incubator program for local musicians and songwriters.
Terri Winston discussed the challenges encountered in building the current recording facility during the tour. Demonstrations were provided of the Stratus console, signal flow, outboard equipment and acoustic treatments of the control room. Ms. Winston also discussed the regulatory compliance issues associated with construction in San Francisco as well as the maintenance and repair needed to keep the facility running. A lively question and answer session followed the presentation.
