Meeting summary: The meeting started off at 7:58pm with Dave introducing Hector and
Hector went into a brief overview of the presentation. Hector is from Tucson and has
been in the audio industry for many years. He talked about his credentials which
included a Bachelor's Degree in Music with a Minor in Business. He worked for Apple
for about Seven years doing different positions including customer service, which is
crucial in the audio industry. There are three pillars of the business: Music, Business,
and Engineering/Production. At the music pillar, he described how extremely important
playing an instrument or knowing music theory is; which makes you a more credible
professional in the field. For business, his main pillar and point of the meeting, his
emphasis was on entrepreneurship. He talked about how music the industry is built on
community and how much an authentic connection is key. Always anticipate people's
needs and make sure you are giving them complete "customer service" and to be up to
date on all things related to sales of a record. For his third pillar, engineering and
production, he emphasized that it is important to always use the best tools that you can
to get the job done, and do it as best as you possibly can. He also added to stay up to
date on all things engineering, and to expand your skills as an engineer to building gear
and troubleshooting as much as possible so that you know gear inside and out. He then
recapped the presentation with his original overview and thanked all of us for coming to
the presentation. The meeting disbanded at 8:52 and many stuck around to talk to
Hector for more advice about his presentation.
