Summary

Jess Repanshek the IT specialist at our Gilbert CRAS location talked with our student body tonight showcasing tips on how we can increase our workflow on our Mac's. Jess started off by explaining the different modes we can trigger upon startup. Boot loader, safe mode and target disk mode were the three he showed and explained each with their own specific purpose. One thing Jess kept pointing out was how important it is to learn as many hot keys as possible for your mac. A good way to look up hot keys for some of your most active areas on your mac is to navigate to "Finder/Go" and a drop down menu will appear with hotkeys to easily access some of your destinations including documents, downloads, network etc...He then moved into different apps and hidden utilities we can enable for smoother use such as application switcher, better touch tool, keyboard viewer and activity monitor just to name a few. Another high point of the night was when Jess showed us how using an app like "Carbon Copy Cloner" and Target Disk Mode you can make an exact copy of your mac to another one or if you desire this is a good way to transfer big files fast between computers. Jess wrapped up the night talking about the different extensions/plugin he has and ones you can download for your browser, one to mention is "Add block plus" the plugin speaks for itself when it instantly blocks adds from youtube and various other websites.
