The MTSU AES Student Section welcomed new and returning students to the 2014-15 school year. Approximately 70 students attended the organizational meeting in Lab A.
Faculty advisors Michael Fleming and Bill Crabtree spoke to the group about the mission and scope of the AES, including its conventions, section activities, research output and networking benefits. At MTSU, the AES will provide unique opportunities for both pre- and post-candidacy students through meetings, informal hangouts, field trips and other special events.
Prospective student officers introduced themselves and described their plans for the academic year. They are Zak Denham, chair, Michael Hegner, vice-chair, Matthew Gallagher, secretary, and Brian Brown, treasurer. There was an informal poll to gauge interest in various meeting topics and ideas were solicited from attendees. There will be an election at the next formal meeting to ratify the proposed slate of 2014-15 officers.
