Meeting Topic: Non-conventional Electronics Instruments Display
Meeting Location: Universidad de San Buenvantura's main square
On Friday, November the 22nd, the 2nd Non-conventional Electronics Instruments Display was held at the Universidad de San Buenvantura's main square, in Bogotá. Here students from Sound Enineering's 8th, 9th and 10th semester presented different unconventional electronic instruments based on the free platform Arduino and using MIDI protocol for communication with virtual instruments. Among the presented projects some simulations of popular musical instruments were found, like saxophone, flute and marimba; some quite unusual, like the Steelpan, and new alternatives such as using a joystick to control several virtual instruments.
The use of several electronic sensors, as potentiometers, pressure sensors and piezoelectric devices, along with the implemented programmation for each of these allowed students to develop tangible projects that were presented to the public using them in several musical performances throughout the day.
This activity was undertaken as part of the Digital Electronics course in the Sound Engineering degree, supported by AES San Buenaventura
