AES Manny Marroquin interview 6-28-2013
"To be successful you have to be passionate," you could say was Manny
Marroquin's number one tip or theme of the interview. You must be passionate about anything in life, if you truly want to get anything out of it. Have goals worth reaching for, and take constructive criticism when needed. These all were many things Mr.Marroquin often found himself repeating over and over again later in the interview. He is right, you must make goals for yourself, and take everyday a day at a time.
Emotions change with certain effects, and certain twists on a song, and what Mr. Marroquin used to do was sit down in different lighting, or a different atmosphere. That really inspires me to just listen to more and more music but at different places, in different settings, because that is how you store that feeling or emotion for later.
LIsten to all music. If you want to be an engineer, you cannot listen to what you only would listen too. You must be a jack of all trades. So listen to something you wouldn't normally listen to. Take time out of your day to just sit down, put on pandora and look up an artist you would never listen to, and see how it sounds, and analyze what the artist or musician is going for.
The next biggest tip that Manny gave out to all the young inspired engineers, was simply to be humble. He said it over and over again that you must be humble and be appreciative. The hardest part is getting through the door, so make sure to leave a good impression of you on the people you may very well be working for in the near future. That inspires me, because it is one thing for your mom to tell you that, or your grandparents but when Mr. Marroquin tells you those things you step back and you
really open your eyes. You start thinking about how you can be humble and know when to speak and say the right things at the appropriate times.
One of the most interesting things that Mr. Marroquin said that stood out too me was personality matters. I thought about it and said to yourself, who doesn't know that? But all the times your mom told you to be polite, and be humble, all of those things seriously matter!. This career is not only 50% technical, it is also 50% customer service. No one would want to work with someone you wouldn't want to hang out with on a daily
basis. that is just how it goes. Those were some of Manny Marroquin's most inspiring or just healthy reassuring tips, to take with us on our own adventures. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed our time with Manny, and know the students could say the same thing.
