Summary

This was the first event of the academic year planned by the York Student Section of the AES. It was also the first event with a totally new officer team, and aimed to allow students to gather insight into the working world of composition and sound design.
The session involved a 2 way skype conversion between the York Student Section of the AES, and the composer for media Sean Beeson. This consisted of a series of small talks from Sean, interspersed with questions from the students at the meeting. The meeting lasted approximately 1 hour, and involved some informal conversation between Sean and the students discussing sampling, workflow, Sean's work in interactive ballets, and novel ways to use software samplers.
The incentive of a prize draw to win Pro Tools 10, provided by Academia IT Solutions, brought a few extra students to the discussion. This resulted in a modest gathering of audiophiles and aspiring composers, and despite this being the first event of the year, the transatlantic discussion was deemed a success, and more similar talks are in the pipeline for 2013.
