Summary
Professor Roger Arnold hosted our third annual Snare Drum Mic Shootout this week. He instructed those in attendance on how to properly tune a drum, demonstrating it with both a tom and a snare drum. We then set up various different microphones around the snare drum out in the studio, comparing them all through the same two pre amps and converters. These microphones included an sm57, beta sm57, RE20, Telefunken M80, MD421, and more. We then tried out different combinations of mics as well as different micing techniques.
