Born Digital
Will recordings survive the 21st century?
Asset management and storage issues for Engineers, Producers, Artists, and studios
Presented by John M. Spencer
President - BMS/Chace
Presented by AES/PNW
in conjunction with the Association for Recorded Sound Collections

Wednesday, May 17, 7:30pm
Glennsound Studios, Seattle, WA

This discussion will focus on the issues raised in the creation, storage and management of digital assets. For anyone involved with the creative process of digital recording, it is important to recognize that the resultant data needs to be treated with an entirely different perspective than analog recordings.

From documentation (metadata) of the creative process to the final archiving of a digital recording, this presentation will highlight some of the potential pitfalls and what steps the professional recording community is taking to preserve our commercial and creative legacy. Topics to be covered include the NARAS/AES Recommendations for Multitrack Deliverables document, concepts and solutions regarding metadata and digital storage, and how this will impact your business. We will also discuss some real-world examples of how major and independent labels are responding to this looming problem, and how studios, engineers, and producers can educate themselves to better protect our recorded legacy.

Plenty of time will be set aside for Q&A, where real-world questions can be raised regarding specific scenarios and the options currently available will be discussed. Please join us for what will most assuredly be a spirited dialog on the future of recorded assets!
