and Frank Wells, VP Central Region, USA of the Audio Engineering Society

Greetings and Salutations Ladies and Gentlemen,

After a number of years of talking to Central Texas AES members about wanting to resurrect our local chapter, Charles Roe, myself and others have succeeded in creating the critical mass of commitment needed to have a vibrant, active AES chapter again in Central Texas. The following members met at the University of Texas at Austin on April 7, 2005 and officially formed the Central Texas AES chapter, a professional organization within the Audio Engineering Society.

1. Ron Magnuson
2. Andy Murphy
3. Charles Roe
4. Tom Johnson
5. Marcus Owens
6. David Horton
7. David Hough
8. Scott Christie

10. Douglas Winter
11. Sarah Cunningham
12. Mike Berman
13. Dan Huff
13. Mark Sinko
14. Martin Theophilus
15. Bob Thurmond

We accepted the chapter by-laws as set forth by the AES and elected a temporary slate of officers to conduct the business of getting the chapter up and functioning.

Chair- Andy Murphy
Vice-Chair- Bob Thurmond
Secretary- Charles Roe
Treasurer- Martin Theophilus

We agreed to have 6 meetings a year. Since this year is already 4 months
old we will attempt to have 4 meetings - possibly May, June, August and
November. We hope to organize additional, informal - unofficial events and meetings to
help raise awareness of the area AES chapter. Below is a list of possible
topics for meetings. Anyone having ideas and topics should contact Andy
Murphy or Charles Roe, preferably by email. We welcome volunteers from the membership who would be willing to help organize and run a panel and head up a committee. We are also asking members to co-sponsor events. Some event/meeting ideas that have been proposed are:

1). Pro Sound: what's new in Central Texas (Wunder Audio, Pro Sound
News, D2, FMR Audio, etc.)
2). Chips and DSP: Sigmatel, AMD and Cirrus (local audio
manufacturers)
3). Live sound & recording: University Texas, Austin City Limits, Festivals, etc
4). Acoustics - Broadcast- Academic Research using Audio -
Architectural and Recording spaces.
5). Engineering Tips: Programming and customizing audio for games
6). The Austin Sound: Panel of influential Austin recording engineers and producers

I also want to let our student members know that I am committed to mentoring and coordinating activities with the current and future student chapters in our area. I know there is already an active student chapter at Texas State in San Marcos and we look forward to the establishment of a student chapter here at the University of Texas in Austin.

We will be creating a website - currently we are looking
at www.CentralTexasAES.org. Examples of website content will be: posting members info, upcoming events, scholarship opportunities and links to useful AES associated info.

I will be contacting you again in the next few weeks to set a meeting time and place for the middle of May. At that meeting I hope that we can also finalize the slate of officers for the chapter and get some committees in place to start our activities for the year.

I look forward to working with you all towards our goals of audio education and advancing, improving and increasing scientific knowledge in the field of audio engineering and allied arts.

Respectfully,

Andy Murphy
Acting Chair of the Central Texas Chapter of AES
Chief Recording Engineer, College of Fine Arts, University of Texas
