127th AES Convention To Host Society Of Broadcast Engineers Certification Exam

For Release: July 28, 2009

NEW YORK: In an on-going Audio Engineering Society effort to expand its services to the broadcast engineering community, 127th AES Convention Broadcast Chair David Bialik reports that this year’s event will host a Society of Broadcast Engineers Certification Exam session on site at NY’s Javits Center. Scheduled for Monday, October 12, this marks the first time an SBE exam session has been available at an AES Convention.

“We invited the SBE to take advantage of the growing contingent of engineers attending AES Conventions,” Bialik says. “This year’s convention is offering an expanded Broadcast and Streaming Session program, which will be of particular interest to SBE Certification applicants. The SBE is the only exam that quantifies an engineer’s qualifications for a prospective employer.”

SBE Certification Committee Chairman, Jim Bernier reports that the SBE's quarterly exam program is coordinated through the organization’s more than 100 local chapters. “Exams have previously been held in NY through Chapter 15, which will assist in administering this exam,” Bernier says. “The SBE can also arrange special proctoring outside the established exam dates by request.”

Engineers interested in registering for the exam may complete the Certification application available at www.sbe.org (http://www.sbe.org/cert_classif.php). Most levels of certification require some experience in broadcast engineering or a related field. Registration prior to the AES convention is recommended, but not required. Applications will be accepted on-site. Membership in the SBE is not required to obtain SBE certification.

In welcoming the SBE Certification Exam to the Convention AES Executive Director Roger Furness remarked, “We are constantly seeking methods of making our events more useful. The SBE exams represent an excellent opportunity to provide an additional service to our attendees.”

The 127th AES Convention will be held at NY’s Javits Convention Center Oct. 9 - 12, 2009.
