As an accomplished leader in coordinating and managing broadcast productions, Alex Kosiorek focuses his attention on projects that promote high-quality reproduction, mixing and mastering, through technologically advanced media and concepts.
Alex Kosiorek is the Manager of Central Sound at Arizona PBS, an award-winning audio-media service of Arizona PBS — Arizona State University. His expertise incorporates codec implementation, surround sound, loudness management, live broadcasting, direction of short and long form broadcast productions, systems design and copyright compliance. With extensive leadership experience, Kosiorek oversees productions, end-to-end management of facilities, and coordination of design teams while maintaining affiliations with dozens of recognized arts organizations.
Kosiorek earned an audio degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), with graduate education from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and Bowling Green State University. Early career highlights include engineering for the former Radio Smithsonian, post-producing the programs 'Folkmasters' and 'Jazz Smithsonian.' Following his work with the XXVI Olympiad (Atlanta), he became the first Audio Engineer Fellow for the New World Symphony, under Artistic Director Michael Tilson Thomas, recording the symphony's European Tour in 5.1 surround, in the great halls of Europe such as the Barbican, the Concertgebouw, and the Konzerthaus in Vienna. Kosiorek later became the Audio-Media Production Supervisor for Arizona Public Media, where he developed an expertise in audio codec utilization, system design & audio processing, producing one of the 1st high-quality classical Internet streams, while optimizing the audio infrastructure and boosting audience growth.
In 2002, Kosiorek became the Audio Recording and Mastering Engineer for the Corbett Studio at Cincinnati Public Radio, where he was Lead Engineer for the surround recordings and broadcasts of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, May Festival Chorus and Cincinnati Opera. He conducted in-depth tests of surround sound delivery systems and was instrumental in creation of the first U.S. radio station to initiate surround programing. Appointed Director of the Recording Services at the Cleveland Institute of Music ("CIM") in 2006, Kosiorek oversaw the modernization of the department, enhancing services to include high-definition audio and video production, surround as well as online digital media. Kosiorek led a design team to complete CIM's Conrad Studio, the first THX PM3 Certified studio in a music conservatory worldwide. In addition, CIM become the first conservatory to launch multi-platform mobile applications (apps) during his tenure.
His passion for audio has led many other ''firsts" in the industry, all while contributing to trades, boards, committees, and/or presenting for the AES, NAB, NRSC as well as for educators.
