Cornelis Van der Gragt studied electronics, maritime communications, music and acoustics in Amsterdam, Hilversum and Antwerp.
After his military service in the Navy and being a skilled clarinettist, he soon became involved with sound balancing for music productions in both the light and serious fields as well as in entertainment productions with the Netherlands' public broadcasting system. He shared that position as Senior Sound Engineer with other activities such as training, education and acoustical consultancy and lectured in electro-acoustics and recording techniques on many occasions in the Netherlands and abroad.
He is a member of the Netherlands Acoustical Society (NAG) and a Life-member of the AES. He served the Netherlands Section of the AES a.o. as vice-chairman and chairman and was twice awarded the AES Certificate of Appreciation (1985; 2001).
Specialized in listening group activities, he represented the Netherlands Broadcasting Authority as an EBU delegate with the OIRT from 1981 through 1990. After leaving the Netherlands Broadcasting Services (NOB) on a pension scheme, he continues to work as a free-lance recording director, consultant and (until september 2009) as a senior lecturer at the Music Recording Department (Art of Sound) of the Royal Conservatoire / The Hague.
