Harman International - Principal Software Systems Architect

Essential Responsibilities:

•Develop strategies, documentation, standards, prototypes and processes to deploy and apply system related software independent from specific customer projects.
•Code the software designs following company software processes and object-oriented and embedded software industry best practices.
•Analyze existing external and internal object-oriented, embedded software to add features, make modifications, and/or port to different platforms.
•Monitor and evaluate new software technologies suitable for applications in embedded systems.
•Analyze customer and internal requirements and specifications and translates these into software designs.
•Test software designs and code at the unit and system level to insure that all requirements are met and the highest software quality is achieved.
•Identify product requirements or performance issues.
•Work with software team leaders to negotiate resolution of issues.
•Establish and coordinate activities with third party developers and contractors.
•Communicate with peers inside the HARMAN group to coordinate software development. This includes occasional travel for training or coordination with other groups.
•Oversee and coordinate software development activities with software team leaders.
•Participate in internal and customer driven design reviews throughout program life cycles.
•Manage small projects and technical resources, including planning, estimating and follow through.


Basic Qualifications:

•Working knowledge of software development tools (debugger’s, emulators, compilers, etc).
•Working knowledge of software development processes.
•Working knowledge of embedded operating systems.
•Working knowledge of DSP coding
•Ability to read schematics and debug analog and digital hardware.
•Able to use oscilloscope and logic analyzer for troubleshooting.
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
•7+ years of embedded software development or testing.
•7+ years of C/C++, Assembler or other structured language.
•Experience developing and debugging software in a real-time, embedded, multiprocessor, multi-interface environment.


Desired Characteristics:

•Working knowledge of speech processing and telecommunications algorithms.
•Working knowledge of personal computing and mobile device platforms.
•Working knowledge of QNX or Embedded Linux.
•Working knowledge of audio and acoustic systems operations.
•Experience developing and debugging Java software applications (JDK, Eclipse, LEWIT, Kona)
•Microsoft Visual Studio development experience (or equivalent).
•Experience developing and debugging software in a real-time, embedded, multiprocessor, multi-interface environment.
•Strong attention to detail.
•Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
•Creative problem-solver capable of creating and reproducing complex software defects.
•Capable project management and time management skills.


Eligibility Requirements:

•Willingness to travel 20% of the time.
•Willingness to work in an office in Northridge, CA
•Willingness to submit to a background screen and a drug test.
