Harman International - Principal Engineer, Acoustics

Job Description:

• Responsible for audio system acoustic design, responsible for sound quality of all audio products. Micro speaker system tuning experience is a plus;
• Support GPLM to define and review the product concept. Contribute innovation and provide technology roadmap to support marketing strategy;
• Support Product Specification and Program Execution teams in the development of headphone products, define acoustic requirement, interact and communicate with related functions as required.
• Support sound quality control in collaboration with Quality and other team;
• Reviews product designs with the Program Manager and supplier to insure the understanding of all product acoustic requirements prior to supplier quotation.
• Provides input to Product Specification team to match potential supplier's development capability with product requirements and design.
• Responsible for assisting suppliers with acoustics design help.
• Monitor acoustics testing of new products and components at suppliers and Contract Manufacturers as required.
• Responsible for conveying, communicating, and preserving original product definition, design integrity, performance and cost expectations, and scheduling requirements of assigned projects
• Perform acoustic tests on headphone products using proper test systems as required.
• Perform subjective listening test and evaluate sound quality of headphone product.
• Stationed at key suppliers design and manufacturing facilities, as an on-site "advocate" and "extension" of the development.
• Assist line manager to improve sound development process.

Basic Qualifications:

• Must have good hearing and be capable of accurately evaluating sound quality of audio product.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical or acoustical engineering.
• At least three years experience working as a headphone engineer in new product development.
• Experienced in headphone testing using proper equipment;
• Good at communication;
• Good spoken English language skills and write technical documents in clear and concise English.
• Experienced with computers, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
