Fraunhofer IIS - Research Associate (f/m) in Deep Neural Network Optimization

Posted On: 2019-5-2
Location: Erlangen, Germany

The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS has an immediate opening in its AudioLabs department in Erlangen, Germany for a
Research Associate (f/m) in Deep Neural Network Optimization

What is it about?

You will help us to make deep neural networks usable on mobile and embedded devices. To do so, you will optimize the network in terms of model complexity and the size of model updates in order to reduce power consumption, and in order to make effective use of memory and transmission bandwidth. Together, we will develop new optimization and compression methods. You will help with the systematic investigation of these methods and the transfer of existing deep learning applications onto embedded hardware platforms.

About us

AudioLabs is a joint institution of Fraunhofer IIS and Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). Founded in 2008, it is unique worldwide in both its mission and international approach: A team of globally renowned scientists is working to shape the future of audio and multimedia technologies in research areas such as audio coding, audio signal analysis, and perceptual spatial audio signal processing.

Was Sie mitbringen

A scientific degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or similar
Programming experience, preferably in Python and C/C++
Experience in the application of machine learning and deep neural networks
Interest in digital signal processing, pattern recognition or efficient algorithms
Fluent English for collaborative work in an international team

Was Sie erwarten können

We offer you varied and challenging work in an enthusiastic team. You can contribute with your ideas and help design new concepts. Regular training is given, as are flexible, family-friendly work arrangements.

The Fraunhofer IIS Audio and Multimedia division, based in Erlangen, Germany, has been working in audio coding technology for more than 25 years and remains a leading innovator of technologies for cutting-edge multimedia systems. Fraunhofer IIS is the main inventor of MP3 and universally credited with the co-development of the AAC family of audio codecs as well as technologies for the media world of tomorrow, including Fraunhofer Cingo for virtual surround, Fraunhofer Symphoria for automotive 3-D audio, AAC-ELD for telephone calls with CD-like audio quality, and dialog enhancement to allow TV viewers to adjust dialog loudness as they desire. Through the course of more than two decades, Fraunhofer IIS has licensed its audio codec software and application-specific customizations to at least 1,000 companies. Fraunhofer estimates that it has enabled more than 6 billion commercial products worldwide using its MP3, AAC and other media technologies. The Fraunhofer IIS organization is part of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, based in Munich, Germany. Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is Europe’s largest applied research organization and is partly funded by the German government. With 22,000 employees worldwide, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is composed of 66 Institutes conducting research in a broad range of research areas.
