At Bowers & Wilkins, we are looking to recruit an Automotive and New Audio Development Engineer focused on the audio system design and development in some of the world’s most desirable automobiles. This is an opportunity to become part of the Bowers & Wilkins Automotive team based in Steyning, West Sussex which will shortly be relocating to a much larger facility in Southwater, Horsham. The relocation of our Steyning Research Establishment represents a significant investment to expand the team and accelerate the company’s ability to develop new capabilities that will drive innovation across its suite of luxury home speakers, headphones and performance car audio.
As Automotive and New Audio Development Engineer you will be working with the likes of BMW, Maserati, Volvo and McLaren Automotive. This dynamic and varied role requires frequent European travel to support customer development as well as liaison with industrial partners and in-house teams on the design of new and innovative sound systems that further establish Bowers & Wilkins as the gold standard in car audio.
In this role, you will be actively involved in the design and development of new automotive transducers and work closely with our partner OEMs to optimise their integration into vehicles. The role will cover all aspects of audio system integration from system definition and mechanical integration through to vehicle tuning and validation. Excellent report writing and presentation skills will be essential in supporting this work. You will also require hands-on, practical skills to support the creation of transducer and vehicle structure prototypes to support the development process.
As part of the wider engineering team you will also be expected to undertake research and development of new and innovative audio technologies. You will also have a significant involvement in the product development of exciting new categories that will drive the incremental growth of the brand. You will need excellent time and project management skills in order to manage your responsibilities.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, you will be expected to:
· Undertake benchmarking of competitor vehicles
· Support QC of production vehicle systems
· Engage in system tuning, fault finding and correction
· Maintain an overview of Bowers and Wilkins domestic audio technologies with a view to alignment with the automotive roadmap and applicability to new product categories.
It is essential that you have a degree in mechanical/electronic/acoustic engineering, physics or associated disciplines, with knowledge and experience in FEA and 3D CAD systems. You will have experience in the use of basic workshop equipment and be willing to drive on business travel when required.
You will of course have a strong interest in audio and vehicle design and an appetite for exciting new challenges.
