Acoustics Engineer

Reports To: Manager, Systems Engineering
Essential Responsibilities:
•Design and develop active/networked/powered loudspeakers for the tour and installed markets.
•Work closely with the market segment managers to define product requirements and specifications
•Work with the other JBL Pro Engineering teams (Loudspeaker Systems, Transducers and Mechanical Engineering) to design and develop active speaker products.
•Work closely with Harman and partner manufacturing facilities to transition and support the manufacture of active loudspeaker products.
•Communicate, interact and leverage technology partners.
•Develop test specification and programs for functional testing of end products.
•Discover and propose new ideas and technologies to the engineering and marketing teams.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
Required:
•5 years of experience in design and development of electronic and acoustic products.
•Engineering experience in networking technologies (including control and media transport).
•Working knowledge and experience of ECAD and EE simulation tools.
•Willingness and ability to multi-task.
•Strong desire to work in the audio and sound business.
•Work in a collaborative, team environment.
Education
Required:
•Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

•Experience in the development and tuning of powered loudspeakers and systems.
•Experience in DSP algorithms and programming.
•Experience in design of low EMI/EMC circuitry.
•Experience in low latency wireless technologies.
•Training and experience in Mentor Graphics ECAD Tools.
•Knowledge of UL, CE and other various regulatory regulations and requirements.
•Understanding and familiarity in development of embedded and/or application software.

Jr. Loudspeaker System Engineer

Essential Responsibilities:
•Design & test active and passive loudspeaker systems to meet the specified requirements for performance and cost.
•Simulation of loudspeaker components and/or systems. Analyze the results and incorporate them into new designs and design improvements.
•Specify parameters of filters for DSP implementation.
•Perform tests on speaker components and complete systems to include power handling, impedance, transfer function, distortion, power compression, frequency response and polar response.
•Measure and analyze loudspeaker performance using HATS, LEAP, MLSSA, LMS, Listen SoundCheck, Audio Precision, Clio, Klippel and other test systems as required.
•Design loudspeaker cabinets including dimensions, materials, and construction techniques.
•Assemble prototype loudspeakers and passive crossover networks.
•Evaluate loudspeaker, and loudspeaker component, failures and discrepancies. Develop test plans and implement corrective actions.
•Create bills of materials for new loudspeaker systems.
•Create development schedules for assigned projects, track project status against the schedule and communicate to engineering management.
•Sustaining engineering support.
•Participate in new product development teams.
•Complete projects as assigned by engineering management.
Basic Qualifications:

o One to four years experience.

o Demonstrated skills to accomplish projects in a timely manner and ability to multitask.
o Willingness & capability to learn.

Sr. Mgr, Engineering

Essential Responsibilities:
•Lead and direct loudspeaker engineering product teams to ensure new products meet marketing requirements and technical specifications
•Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within cost requirements
•Evaluate and resolve technical feasibility, design optimization, and manufacturability issues.
•Establish overall objectives and initiatives for engineering product development teams, implement metrics and management systems to ensure objectives are met.
•Identify potential new products and lead research efforts to determine their feasibility and viability.
•Research and monitor audio industry developments and related technological innovations, apply new technologies to maintain JBL’s technical leadership.
Essential Functions:
•Define system configuration for new speaker products to meet technical, cost and schedule requirements defined in the Product Request.
•Supervise, train and mentor local and overseas engineering staff.
•Define product teams and assign engineers, designers and technicians to teams.
•Define new product development schedules, monitor schedule adherence. Communicate schedules and status to Project Management and Executive Management.
•Work with Marketing to complete project feasibility evaluations including the preparation of preliminary product cost and development schedule.
•Work with Marketing to define potential new products, participate in the writing and review of Product Requests.
•Review, evaluate and select new materials, emerging technologies, methods and processes to keep a technological edge for new products. Includes the pricing, qualification and validation for cost effective conversion into manufacturing. Includes the participation and review of Industrial Designs.
•Support Project Management to create project development budgets including prototypes, samples, tooling, outside services, consultants and contractors, etc. Includes capital plans and Project Authorization Requests.
•Oversee design verification and validation, OEM supplier qualification, product quality and test plans, regulatory agency approvals, first article evaluations and approvals.

oAt least five years in a senior engineering role with responsibility for the overall system architecture, project schedule and product cost. Three or more years leading teams, mentoring and supervising technical staff.
