Audio Engineer Intern

Position Summary:

The intern will work with a small team of acoustic researchers involved in the research and testing of automotive, consumer and professional audio systems. They will assist in conducting subjective and objective measurements of automotive audio systems, loudspeakers, headphones and signal processing algorithms.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role will not have any direct or indirect reports.

Job Responsibilities:

- Assisting staff in research of automotive, consumer and professional audio systems
- Assisting staff in conducting controlled listening experiments
- Conducting acoustic/electrical measurements of automotive audio systems / loudspeakers / headphones / algorithms

Basic Qualifications:

- Must be enrolled as an active student in a undergraduate / masters program in audio engineering (E.E., M.E, Computer science) or equivalent with a interest in a career in audio engineering and research
- Familarity in setting up, measuring and calibrating audio systems
- Good critical listening skills applied to evaluating the sound quality of audio systems

Preferred Qualifications & Desired Competencies:

- Course work and/or experience in audio recording and playback
- Course work in psychoacoustics, room acoustics, loudspeakers and headphones
- Course work and/or experience in audio DSP
- Experience using audio measurement systems

Eligibility Requirements:

- Willingness to work in an office in Northridge, CA
- Willingness to submit to a background screen and a drug test

Director Transducer Engineering / Chief Engineer Transducer (m/f)

Establish world-class Transducer product and process through the development and proliferation of breakthrough/innovative transducer designs from concept & pre-development phase to product application ready
Act as Automotive Audio’s foremost expert in new market trends and technologies that can be incorporated into future designs and serve as a competitive advantage in Harman’s business pursuits
Research and review completive products, technologies, and intellectual property
Conduct research and development into new materials, components, topologies, and simulation methods
Develop winning transducer proposals in response to customer Requests for Quote, approve RFQ responses to all customers globally and ensure global alignment of transducer product solution proposals, optimizing re-use of IP across R&D teams
Lead transducer design related problem solving activities for assigned projects
Provide technical support on acoustical performance, durability and cost at Design and Feasibility reviews
Specify, use, maintain, and improve upon Transducer Best Practices and Design Standards
Work with vendors to guide the development of new designs and technologies, as well as, use of new materials that can be incorporated into Harman’s Transducer roadmap to reduce cost, enhance performance, or both
Ensure that potential intellectual property is fully researched, documented, and protected
Provide technical support to other functions, as needed
Prepare technical reports
Stay current with the latest developments in world class best practices as related to audio product design, simulation, analysis, measurement, materials, and processing techniques


Master’s degree or equivalent in a specialized technical/scientific field. Additional experience may be substituted for education and vice-versa
10+ years related experience. Proven track record of designing systems for transducer market
Leadership: Build environment of trust, high performance and engagement by establishing clear goals and a commitment to feedback, development and recognition
Change Orientation: Champion a better, faster and simpler way of doing things
