Principal Engineer, Streaming Media Systems

The Principal Engineer, responsible for Streaming Media Systems, will be the technical driver responsible for providing pre- and post-sales support for DTS’s streaming product line. The Principal Engineer’s mission is be to become a key and respected technical resource to streaming content providers. The individual will work closely with the Streaming Solutions team, Certification, R&D and Customer Solutions Engineering teams to ensure that customers achieve a high satisfaction rate during all stages of the development and release cycle. The role is expected to build strong customer relationships while advocating for DTS’s customer value proposition.

The individual is expected to engage with, or support the engagement with, the following parties:
• Existing Customers, for delivery of required technical service in support of product realization
• New Customers, for new design-in opportunities of DTS technologies


While engaging with Existing Customers, duties include:
• Becomes the primary technical interface and main point-of-contact for technical requirements in regards to deploying DTS technologies in customer solutions
• Support the design-in efforts by providing deep technical knowhow on integration of DTS technologies
• Support the hands-on product evaluation and testing by the Customer, able to address technical problems on site
• To help customer with their product development on site, hands on. Able to address both HW and SW related issues independently to a certain degree.
• Problem solving, either directly or help internal teams to assess the issues with on-site evaluation and detailed discussions with the Customer
• Provide technical training, and other direct technical support to the Customer

Experience:

• Experience with Streaming Formats such as MPEG-DASH, HLS and Smooth Streaming as well as DRM schemes, such as Playready & Widevine
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science, plus relevant industry experience.
• Experience with open source streaming and video technologies
• Solid experience working with SDKs, real time operating systems and writing C/C++ code.
• Experience with Android Applications/Android Applications Framework/Android BSP/Drivers, and overall experience in Android mobile device development
• Strong Networking experience, able to create VPN networks for testing Streaming applications
• Experience loading, testing, supporting development of OTT applications on multiple device types: OTT boxes, mobile, Connected TV, consoles, streaming sticks, etc.
• Problem solving in existing audio/video applications.
• Development of software components for testing streaming applications
• Strong customer facing skills, ability to read the room and react accordingly
• Ability to help develop reference kits, and prototypes of new technology applications a strong plus
• Familiar with at least one transcoder, muxer and transmuxer
• Familiar with container formats like MP4 ISO Base Media File Format, MPEG2 Transport Stream, Ultra-Violet, Protected Interoperable File Format.
• Familiar with codec like H.26x/VC1, AAC/HE-AAC, DTS
• Architectural understanding of Web Apps, Web-based OS’s for Audio codec integrations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with Agile development practices a plus

Other Skills & Abilities:

• Exposure to system management tools, i.e. Git, Jira, Sales Force
• Scripting languages Python, Perl, and Bash.

R&D Audio Engineer

The candidate will assume a technical leadership role in designing new algorithms, with the main focus on novel audio compression and enhancement technologies. Director, Build and Release Management

Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure & Operations, the Director, Build and Release Management will lead the Build Management Office to ensure that the Continuous Integration System meets the needs of the Software Development teams providing a reliable and consistent process. The Build Management Office is responsible for all Software Engineering tools including software configuration management, issue tracking, internal wiki, code review tools and software build tools.
In this role, you will support Atlassian's JIRA, Confluence, FishEye/Crucible, and Crowd applications to meet the needs of the Technology Organization (Engineering) as well the needs of system users in other functions throughout the company. As the adoption of the Agile / Scrum / Kanban methodology expands to various teams, you will promote best practices while advising teams on how to get the most out of the Atlassian tool suite.
As Director, Build and Release Management you will be responsible for the Continuous Integration (CI) System used by internationally distributed Software Development teams. The CI System builds applications for desktop and mobile device platforms as well as SDKs for a variety of embedded platforms.
• Leads a cross-functional software release management team, comprised of, build engineers and software release operations personnel.
• Set and manage team goals and initiatives to align with organization and company-wide goals.
• Ensures high availability of all systems managed by the Build Management Office by proactively reducing the probability of system failures and managing the response to failures that do occur.
• Defines and develops project plans.
• Identifies needed resources for projects, and assigns major project roles.
• Manages projects to ensure completion on schedule and within budget constraints.
• Organizes project activities and interdepartmental meetings to ensure that stakeholders’ objectives can be achieved.
• Assigns and monitors work of personnel providing support and interpretation of instructions and objectives. Work includes, but is not limited to:
o Review plans for new or modified build, release and deploy processes for clarity and completeness.
o Participate in all project phase reviews; recording any nonconformance.
o Add info on SQA team participation! Work with development to create spec for new products or features, and then test from that spec [Allan – not sure about the relevance of this requirement. This seems more like a Test Engineering task than a Build Management Office task.]
o Work with Development and SQA to integrate testing into the Continuous Integration software build process.

o QA of tools and utilities.
o Assist SQA teams in developing test plans for adherence to standards.
o Work with R&D and/or consultants on defining and enhancing comparison tools and other utilities.
o Reviews current systems and makes technical/process recommendations for improving efficiency.
• Functions collaboratively as part of a fast-paced, customer oriented team and perform effectively as an independent producer under broad management direction.

Education and/or Experience:

1. BA/BS Degree in CS, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience with Engineering Systems Administration, or Application Systems Administration, or Development Operations in a medium to large-sized environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in establishing and upholding procedures with a focus on sustainability and maintainability as an organization grows.

Fellow, Software Solutions Engineering

As Fellow, Solutions Engineering, you will work with business, research and development teams to design solutions for audio technologies that are deployed across multiple technical platforms. You will be responsible for the overall solution design for one or more strategic initiatives across all delivery platforms including web-based services (cloud), mobile (iOS, Android, Windows) SDKs and OEM platform integration, and desktop (Windows, Mac). As Fellow, Solutions Engineering, you will also interface with our customer service teams, and directly with customers and integration partners, to drive the integration of DTS ingredient technologies into OEM/ODM platforms.

As a recognized expert with a wealth of knowledge, you have a proven track record of resolving the most complex and broad reaching technical challenges. To be successful in this role, you must have superior coding skills in C/C++ and 2 other languages. You must be experienced with lean and agile methods. You must be enthusiastic, collaborative, and a quick learner. Travel is required for this position (approximately 30% of time), which is based in Calabasas, California. This position reports into the Office of the CTO.
