Research Manager

About the Job

We are seeking a forward-looking and creative Research Manager to lead iZotope’s applied research team in the discovery and evaluation of emerging audio technologies and their application to our future products. Qualified applications should have demonstrable experience managing and supporting a team of research and development engineers; expert knowledge in the design and development of signal analysis and processing algorithms; a passion for music and audio technology; and enthusiasm for and awareness of technological advances in DSP and related disciplines. The ideal candidate would have prior experience developing audio plugins and be familiar with trends in audio software.

Responsibilities will include:

• Management and mentorship of software engineers on iZotope’s Research team
• Working closely with product management and development teams to identify and pursue research opportunities to develop breakthrough, enabling technologies for iZotope’s software and hardware products
• Supporting active projects through the delivery of new algorithms and technologies to product development teams
• Working with Engineering Managers and leaders throughout the department to define and uphold best practices company-wide
• External outreach to industry partners, universities and professional organizations in the audio industry to keep iZotope current in regards to relevant technology and scientific trends and promote iZotope’s contributions in these areas
• Direct contribution to research efforts through prototyping and development of new algorithms and technologies, and maintaining and upgrading our portfolio of existing technologies

Required Qualifications:

• 2 or more years prior experience as a Research Lead or Manager
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent field
• In-depth knowledge of theoretical and applied DSP, especially in the areas of digital audio effects, speech processing and/or music information retrieval
• Expertise in at least one programming or scripting language, e.g., C/C++
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail
• Team player and strong influence and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with algorithm development using Matlab, Octave or Python
• Currency with modern applications of artificial intelligence / machine learning techniques in audio analysis and processing
• Experience working with product managers to define and implement product requirements
• Experience using and/or developing audio plugin SDKs

Senior Audio Electronics Engineer

Position Summary

The Senior Audio Electronics Engineer takes the lead role in the development of analog and digital circuitry required to support iZotope’s hardware audio products. Working with internal teams and external contractors, you take full responsibility for both the analog and digital circuit design.

Able to anticipate common challenges and tradeoffs in audio electronics development, you understand the overall product goals and translate that understanding into designs, circuits, prototypes and ultimately, a validated production product. You understand the new product introduction process and are able to support both the design and manufacturing stages of development.

Responsibilities will include:

• Collaborate with internal development team and external contractors to design, develop and architect electronics for iZotope audio products.
• Maintain schematic diagrams, electronics BOM, circuit simulations and board layouts in support of product designs.
• Optimize electronics design for the best balance of economy, quality, reliability, safety, and sustainability.
• Define and develop research prototypes needed to support product goals.
• Assure products comply with appropriate regulatory and safety requirements.
• Work with external vendors and partners to stay current on new product offerings and technology advancements in audio and digital electronics.
• Collaborate with management and the development team to establish hardware technology goals
• Design and development support for manufacturing test fixtures

Required qualifications:

• BS in EE or related technical discipline
• 8+ years prior experience designing mixed signal analog and digital circuits
• 8+ years prior experience developing consumer electronics products from ideation through market release and sustainment.
• Ability to architect or oversee the architecture of a complete consumer product (power, digital, analog, user interface and communication systems)
• Prior experience with high gain, low noise electronics design techniques.
• Prior experience with RF design theory and techniques.
• Awareness of typical design for manufacturing issues, and electronics manufacturing process.
• Experience troubleshooting systems using common lab tools like oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and logic analyzers.
• Ability to negotiate effectively with peers as an integral part of a cross functional team.
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications:

• Prior experience developing audio and/or music products
• Prior experience overseeing layout of PCBs
• Experience with Linux, Arm processors, and Git
• MS in EE

Software Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated individual for a software development position focused on developing audio applications and plug-ins for sound designers, musicians and audio production professionals. Qualified applicants should have in-depth knowledge and demonstrable experience designing, developing and debugging software in C/C++ for Windows and Mac and a passion for music and audio technology. The ideal candidate would have prior experience developing audio plugins and/or virtual instruments and be familiar with trends in the audio industry.

Responsibilities will include:

• Work closely with product management, UX and sound designers to define, understand and realize product requirements
• Design, prototype, develop and deliver new audio products in C/C++
• Maintain and upgrade existing audio products written in C/C++
• Contribute to improvements, refactoring and re-architecture of the application and UI framework, to maintain state-of-the art foundation for our products

Required Qualifications:

• 3 or more years of experience developing efficient, reusable and reliable C/C++ code for production-quality products
• BS Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Exceptional engineering skills, designs for quality, expert problem solver, strong analytical skills
• Solid understanding of design patterns, software frameworks, performance optimization, unit testing approaches and test-driven development
• Self-directed, detail-oriented, able to learn new technologies and work independently
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Team player and able to work collaboratively with other engineers, QA, Product Managers, UX Designers, Sound Designers

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience using and/or developing audio plugin SDKs
• Experience with cross-platform development using Microsoft Visual Studio, Apple Xcode, Git
• Familiarity with continuous integration environment and tools (e.g., Bamboo, Stash, etc.)
• Working knowledge or exposure to DSP and audio signal processing algorithms
• Experience with authorization tools (e.g., PACE or similar), code signing tools (e.g., OSX codesign, Verisign or equivalent), installers (e.g., BitRock, Inno, PackageMaker, InstallShield)
• Familiarity with Agile or Scrum software development methodologies
• Experience with mobile and/or web application development
