Drum Pattern Based Genre Classification from
Popular Music

| This paper addresses the identification of drum patterns
and the classification of their musical genres. The
drum patterns are estimated from audio data automatically.
This process involves the transcription of percussive
unpitched instruments with a method based on independent
subspace analysis and a robust estimation
of the tatum grid and the musical meter. The rhythmic
patterns are identified from pattern histograms, describing
the frequency of occurrence of the percussive
events. The classification procedure evaluates the meter
information, the pattern histogram as well as other high-level rhythmic features derived from the estimated
drum pattern. |
