GRAND TOUR
"IMPERIAL ST.PETERSBURG THROUGH THE CENTURIES: PAST & PRESENT"

St. Petersburg, Petrograd, Leningrad and now again St. Petersburg. This succession of the city's names mirrors Russia's turbulent history. The tour is dedicated to the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg which was the capital of the Tsarist Empire for two centuries, since its foundation by Peter the Great in 1703 as a "window to Europe".

The Grand Tour is organized for accompanying persons and other conference participants, as well, providing an opportunity to explore Saint Petersburg sights within 3 days of the conference. The Tour consists of daily 6-7 hours (9.30-16.00) excursions in a comfortable minibus including a lunch in a restaurant. Every excursion will be guided by an English speaking guide. Entrance fees are included in the cost of the programme. You can reserve full programme (Grand Tour) or join to some of the excursions.

Short description of the Grand Tour

1-st DAY - Peter the Great Footsteps

Peter & Paul Fortress Birthsite of St. Petersburg and formidable bastion along the Neva river, founded by Peter the Great in 1703. St. Peter & Paul Cathedral was the burial place of the Russian Tsars. It is now the museum dealing mostly with the History of St. Petersburg.
The Cabin (Log Cottage) of Peter the Great Constructed for Peter the Great in May 1703, it was the first building in St. Petersburg. The exhibition of the museum contains home utensils of the beginning of the 18-th century including personal belongings of Peter the Great.
The Summer Palace of Peter the Great One of the first stone buildings of St. Petersburg located on the grounds of the Summer Garden laid out by the order of Peter the Great. The interior decoration offers a nice selection of Russian and Western-European paintings and decorative and applied art.

2- nd DAY Catherine the Great - the Golden Age of Russia

Peterhof Palace Peterhof is a residence of the Russian tsars located 30 km to the West of St. Petersburg. A Baroque spectacle of incomparable beauty, the palace of Peter the Great, formerly known as Petrodvorets, was built to rival Versaille and boasts beautiful fountains and gardens.
The State Hermitage Museum The State Hermitage ranks among the best and famous art museums in the world displaying masterpieces by hundreds of artists. The grandiose Winter Palace, the former residence of the Russian tsars and four adjacent buildings house one of the finest art collections in the world consisting of more than two million paintings and art objects.

3-rd DAY Twenty three steps down - Rise & Fall of the Russian Empire

St.Isaac's Cathedral St.Isaac's Cathedral, the former principal church of St.Petersburg, is one of the world's largest domed structures. The vast interior is decorated with 43 kinds of minerals, gilded stucco, 62 mosaics, 152 paintings, more than 300 sculptures.
Museum-monument "Our Savior on the blood" Church on Spilled Blood was built in 1907 as a memorial church to honour the Russian Emperor Alexander II, just on the spot of crucial terrorist attempt upon him. It is a sample of "Russian style" architecture and decorative art at the edge of the 19th-20th centuries.
Yusupov Palace You get a special look at Russia's mysterious past when you visit opulent Yusupov Palace, where Rasputin, the "Mad Monk" or the "Holy Man", was murdered in 1916. The palace, now included into the most interesting sights of St. Petersburg, represents a rare combination of an architectural monument and a "temple of art".
