Getting to Budapest

 

 

By air: flights arrive at the two terminals of Ferihegy International Airport 2. Airport minibuses, taxi and hire car services are available from the airport.

Travelling by train or by coach one can reach Hotel Novotel easily.

Public Transport, Taxi, Driving

Public transport in Budapest is excellent by international standards. A wide variety of buses, trolley buses, trams and underground trains usually operate from 4.30 am to 11 pm. You have to purchase a ticket in advance at the terminals, at underground stations or newsagents.

Taxis have yellow license plates. You can call a taxi by phone: the car will usually get there in 5-10 minutes.

A current driver's license is required for the hiring of rental vehicles.

Insurance, Medical Care

It is highly recommended that all participants arrange health, accident and travel insurance prior to travel.

Emergency treatment is free of charge for foreigners. Hungarian doctors are highly qualified.
Payment is subject to your insurance policy.

Currency, exchange, cheques, credit cards, shopping
Legal tender: forint (Ft, HUF). Money can be exchanged in exchange offices, banks, travel agencies, hotels and in countless bankomats. (For information about the exchange rates, see www.oanda.com.) Traveller's cheques and Eurocheque (at most three at any one time to a maximum of Ft 35,000) are accepted at currency exchange offices. Symbols at the entrance to establishments indicate which cheques and credit cards are accepted.

VAT is 25% for most services in Hungary, except for accomodation which is 12%. Conference prices for registration and accomodation already include VAT.

The international call number of Hungary is 36, and the international dial tone can be accessed by dialing 00.

Congress Venue

Budapest is one of the most beautiful historical cities in Europe and is a very popular conference venue. The architectural beauty with its monuments from neo-classic through baroque to eclectic art nouveau is prevalent in the city. Budapest is also world famous for its artistic abundance of concerts, operas, recitals, galas and exhibitions. It is also a city with a definitely modern, strongly improving economy, Budapest is a European capital, one of the strongest candidates for the EU accession.

Weather

The climate is continental. The average temperature in October is about 18 Celsius. Though it is the driest season of the year, it is advisable to bring a light overcoat and an umbrella.
