Multichannel Sound Control Room in NHK Design Policy and Guideline

Kosuke Mimoto, Toshio Wakatsuki, and Masaki Sawaguchi
NHK, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan

There are eleven multichannel sound control rooms in NHK broadcasting center, Tokyo. Considering not only acoustical requirements but also restrictions (budget, space, time, etc.) and compatibility with other media, the authors have developed a practical design guideline. The paper introduces the outline of the guideline, referring to acoustical characteristics of NHKs multichannel sound control rooms and newly developed acoustical equipment (soundproof doors, acoustically transparent screens, and sound diffusers). The authors hope that this work will contribute to the progress of the information document being written by the Technical Committee on Multichannel and Binaural Audio Technology (TC-MBAT).
