Mark Ziemba has active in audio for over 40 years. He started his career as an audiophile, musician, DJ, and then as an on-location recording engineer. He specialized in recording music in natural acoustic spaces, including choirs, orchestras, and jazz ensembles. In 1984, Mark began his association with David L. Clark of DLC Design. Dave and Mark developed the LTT/LIT Listening Test Technology, which evaluated vehicle audio systems with a numerical score in several orthogonal categories, such as spectral uniformity, spatial dynamics, and clarity. This method became a standard for OEMs, including GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Mark taught the Subjective Listening Portion of the LTT Seminar, training over 500 participants over several years, teaching evaluation of several audio attributes on a 1-5 scale. In 1999, Mark joined Panasonic Automotive to be more involved in the final product and design of vehicle audio systems. In 2003, Mark began a collaboration with renown recording engineer Elliot Scheiner to start the ELS Surround branded audio system, which in the 2004 Acura TL became the first volume vehicle to fully reproduce 24bit/96k 5.1 discrete surround sound. As 5.1 recordings became less available, the brand morphed its focus and name to ELS Studio, dedicated to bringing the studio audio experience to the vehicle. Over the years, ELS Studio has created innovations such as Highline overhead speakers, acoustic motion control, and novel bass management techniques. Mark has been involved in several AES panels, written AES technical papers on loudspeakers and automotive audio, and been a member of the Automotive Audio Technical Council.
Mark collects and uses new and vintage microphones, guitars, and musical instrument amplifiers. He has designed several sound reinforcement speaker systems and studio monitors.
