Allie Whalen holds an MA from the Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) program at New York University. She has worked with the UCLA Library Preservation Program, Anthology Film Archives, Democracy Now, Czech National Film Archive, Cinemateca Uruguaya, and Museo del Cine (Buenos Aires). She focuses on music subculture, specializing in international independent, homemade audiovisual recordings. She has collaborated with archivists at several institutions in the US, South America and Europe. She continues to research the preservation of underground audio from the Eastern Bloc as an extension of her MIAP thesis. She will be sharing her most recent work from an IMLS grant funded project at the UCLA Library to preserve a collection of handmade audiovisual materials.
