Rick Oliver graduated from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, where he won first place in the senior digital system design competition for building a hardware audio FFT processing system, complete with high-quality analog converters. He has worked exclusively in the audio field since then, architecting several direct-to-disk recording and editing systems and developing a variety of processing algorithms. At Sony Pictures Entertainment, one of those recording systems was awarded a Technical Academy Award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the year 2000. He holds about twenty patents in the areas of audio processing and system software. Rick has worked at DTS, Inc. for well over a decade, mainly in post-processing but also in spatial audio, psychoacoustics and system architecture.
