Aníbal Ferreira received his Ph.D degree in ECE from the School of Engineering of the University of Porto, Portugal, in 1998. In 1990/91 and in 1993, he was a consultant at AT&T Bell Laboratories Murray Hill, in New Jersey, where he co-authored the development of the first version of the AT&T Perceptual Audio Coder (PAC) which made significant contributions to the specification of the MPEG-Audio Advanced Audio Coder (AAC) standard. Dr. Ferreira has participated in several European research projects and has been the coordinator of six Portuguese research projects in the areas of real-time audio analysis, synthesis, compression, modification, transcription and singing voice analysis. Dr. Ferreira is a founder of a spin-off company in Portugal in the areas of acoustic voice quality assessment and real-time audio processing. He is also CTA at ATC Labs, a New Jersey start-up devoted to audio and video processing and communication.

Currently Dr. Ferreira is associate professor at the ECE Department of the University of Porto where he teaches in the areas of signal theory, physiological signal processing, multimedia and telecommunications.

His research interests include psychoacoustics, audio analysis, synthesis and coding, multirate filter banks, acoustic analysis of the voice and dysphonic voice reconstruction. Dr. Aníbal Ferreira is a member of the AES, IEEE and ASA societies.
