TT5 - World Hearing Center
Abstract:
The World Hearing Center is a modern specialized hospital providing medical care at the highest quality level in the fields of otolaryngology, audiology, phoniatrics, rehabilitation, and biomedical engineering. The Center is one of the leading medical institutions in hearing disorders treatment, conducting one of the largest hearing implant programs in the world, performing about 18,000 surgical procedures yearly. It is also a research, education and conference center with a large scope of scientific activity.
The tour of WHC will be focused at three units of the Center. At the Teleaudiology Department the visitors will be acquainted with a unique National Network of Teleaudiology introduced in 2009 with the aim of providing a wide range of medical and educational services with the use of telecommunication. At the Cochlear Implant and Auditory Perception Department a Sound Localization Test and a test of evoked cochlear potentials will be presented. At the Bioimaging Research Center, equipped with a 3T MRI scanner with compatible headphones, the visitors will be acquainted with studies of sound perception and neural processing responsible for certain cognitive processes
