Born into a musical family, Dan Zelman built his first electronic device, a guitar amplifier, at the age of 15. Enlisted in the US Marines, Mr. Zelman attended the Navy Aviation Electronics School in Memphis, where he received training in fire control radar, navigation and communication equipment. As a recordist and technician for the Armed Forces Radio and Television, he recorded the first Marine Air Wing Orchestra and Japanese traditional music, in addition to recording the Bob Hope tour, recording all the performances in Japan. After the service, Mr. Zelman was employed by Times Wire and Cable, making analog delay lines for the "Dew Line" early warning system. In 1969, he was offered a job as a full-time engineer for Syncron, working on projects for labels such as Chess, Buddah and Vanguard. This was followed by work as an engineer and technician at Six West Recording (later Arista), Audio Techniques, Howard Schwartz and the Gordon Media Group. As a freelance technician and proprietor of Zeltech, his client list includes AMS Neve, A&M studio, Atlantic Sound, Bennett Studios, the David Letterman theatre, Germano Recording, the Magic Shop, Master Disk, the Met Opera, Rudy Van Gelder, Sear Sound, Studio G and many, many others.
